Recently, I helped a friend design the top of her armoire. I thought I’d share some of our ideas in this post.
There are many ways to arrange items on top of an armoire. However, I have three favorites. First, place a taller (flatter) object against the wall at the back. Then use different-height items in front.
The items at the front are also very attractive. The basket measures about half as high as the sheep picture. The largest white pitcher is approximately half the size of the basket. Smaller pitchers are roughly half the height. You can add a boxwood wreath at the front.
Another arrangement that I like is to use a group of nearly identical but different-height items, such as they did here with these green glass jugs.
Another similar example is where they used three glasses jugs but changed the color of one middle one. They then highlighted the new tone with live foliage.

Happy Tuesday!
Recently, I helped a friend design the top of her armoire. I thought I’d share some of our ideas in case you need any more inspiration.

Another great example is this: A larger, flatter section in the back with some shorter items in front.
(French Country Cottage).
The items at the front are also very attractive. The basket measures about half as high as the sheep picture. The largest white pitcher is approximately half the size of the basket. Smaller pitchers are roughly half the size of the larger pitchers. You can add a boxwood wreath at the front.

The last thing you should try is this technique if your height is less than the height of the armoire. It uses three items. It consists of a bucket, a basket, and a bundle with faux floral stems. These faux flowers cascade over the basket’s edge, as shown in the photos.
It’s super simple and absolutely stunning!
Another great way to group items is shown in the last example.
The hat that hangs in one corner is my favorite, and I love how the clear glass containers don’t obscure the artwork behind it. Because it is the same color as the hat and scaled perfectly, the antler sculpture balances the vignette beautifully. Although it isn’t as tall as the artwork, it’s just as small as the largest glass jug. It also has a light visual weight, which is a nice compliment to the visually lighter (because they are clear) jugs. Personally, I would have the white frame removed behind the black, but it is a wonderful example of a visually balanced grouping.
What about you? Are you a recent decorator of the top of an armoire? Let me know what you used.
